Quadruplex Tangent Benders

Medium and Heavy Series Quadruplex Benders are designed for high volume forming. These highly versatile machines, engineered for minimum tooling changeover time are capable of performing four bends at a rate of 350 to 450 machine cycles per hour. Quadruplex machines are supplied as either individual machines or as bending stations in semi-automatic of fully automated production lines. They are also available with integral spot, seam or arc welding apparatus to weld the joint in four-bend parts while held in the formed position. Gussets, overlapped flanges, tie rails, etc can be joined in the same way. Male (radius) dies are carried on gib-type slides having a length-to-width ratio of at least 3:1 for accurate guidance. Rigid welded construction assures uniform distribution of operating forces throughout. Range of bending radius capacity is from 2MT to 3-in. in material up to 48-in wide and 156-in long.

Heavy Series Quadruplex Benders are usually employed in high volume production applications where heavy section cabinet forming involves upset of stretch-flange bending to precise radii. The four standard sizes will handle 12-in. to 36-in. widths with bend radii up to 4-in. These machines are also available with three bending wings (designated TRIPLEX machines), and with integral welders. When heliarc, spot, seam or projection welder is included, joining is performed while the part is clamped for bending, thus eliminating transfer to, and repositioning in a separate welder. Standard heavy series Quadruplex machines are now usually supplied with stationary die mounting column and moving lower ram. Radius die tooling is mounted to a rigid back frame, supported to the front of the lower machine base, instead of positioning on a moving slide. Clamping is accomplished by raising and lowering the wing assemblies, assuring uniform centerline clamping pressure across the work piece. Main wings are operated by two hydraulic cylinders on each wing, placing the power push directly in line with the front and back wing fulcrum points and providing uniform control of the wing movement. The design also facilitates positioning of auxiliary equipment, such as welding attachments. Additionally, work handling devices can be added without secondary elevators, thus simplifying load/unload operations. Unitized tooling, for easy changeover from one product size to another, is also available. This type of tooling is made up of an upper radius die and a lower die package consisting of crowning center section, main wings with side crown section and auxiliary wings, all tied together at each wing fulcrum point with eccentric slip-plate control. This arrangement eliminates changing racks and gears on the main and auxiliary wings each time tooling is changed and keeps the clamp and rocker dies together for each setup. For handling magnesium alloys, insulation is installed on upper wing and bolster surfaces to protect main machine parts from heated dies.
