Seam Welders: LS-SEAM WELDER

LS, MS, HS SEAM WELDERS

STANDARD CIRCULAR & LONGITUDINAL
The main frame of these seam welders is of heavy, rigidly reinforced welded steel construction for a minimum of mechanical deflection but a maximum of accessibility and neat appearance. The lower conductor support or knee is a heavy steel fabrication keyed to the frame for accurate vertical adjustment. The upper conductor is insulated from the frame, while the lower conductor is grounded to the frame, therefore work support tables or conveyors can also be grounded.

Rotating Contacts for Secondary Current
Current collector bearings are standard (except lower longitudinal) on Taylor-Winfield seam welders instead of bushing type bearings. The current collector bearing design separates mechanical load carrying members from the current transmitting members to prevent the action of one group from affecting the action of the other. Tapered roller bearings carry the weld force load with absolute minimum friction and maintain precise alignment.

Welding current is carried to the rotating wheel shaft by spring loaded members of high conductivity submersed in an oil bath for lubrication and heat dissipation. The shaft and copper housing are water cooled. This construction provides high welding capacity at high duty cycle with a minimum of maintenance.

In case of longitudinal configuration, where the lower horn and bearing must enter a cylindrical section, there is usually insufficient clearance for current collector bearings, so straddle-type bushing bearings are provided.

Circular-Longitudinal-Universal
Circular - Wheels are perpendicular to the welder throat. This is the most popular arrangement and is used for making long seams in the flat or around flanges, as on fuel tanks or around a cylinder.

Longitudinal - Wheels are parallel to the welder throat and the lower conductor is usually an unsupported round horn which allows clearance in welding the longitudinal seam of a cylinder or barrel.

Universal - Capable of conversion to either circular or longitudinal by rotating the upper weld head and replacing the lower arm. Two lower arms would be provided.

Standard Features (Included in base price)

• A hardened and ground steel ram, guided by eight anti-friction steel rollers to assure positive alignment, minimize deflection and reduce friction.
• Highly efficient water cooled welding transformer with Class F (155° Centigrade) insulation made in accordance with RWMA specifications.
• Exceptionally low friction air cylinders.
• Air pressure regulator, solenoid valve, gauge, airline lubricator and strainer.
• Speed control valves to control ram movement.
• Upper head adjustable for in/out wheel alignment.
• Tap switch for multiple steps of transformer secondary voltage.
• Two-stage foot switch with pressure switch interlock.
• Bushing type secondary current bearings
• Class 2/Class 3 alloy combination.
• Screw jack for vertical knee adjustment.
• Variable speed D.C. motor for wheel drive.
• Single gear, single knurl or single friction drive.
• Pair of wheel electrodes, RWMA Class 2.
• Air exhaust muffler.
• Weld force chart, force vs. cylinder air pressure.
• Open drain water system with inlet manifold and flow adjusting valves.
• Two instruction manuals.

Optional Features

Force System Options
• Gravity ram drop with electrical interlock.
• Air filter with bowl trap and automatic drain.
• 4.50" air gauge calibrated in pounds weld force.
• Adjustable stroke air cylinder.
• Adjustable-retractable stroke air cylinder, foot switch and solenoid valve controlled.
• Special long stroke cylinder.
• Precision air regulator
• Seal-off airlock, single or double pressure with precision air regulator and air tank.

Transformer Options
• High/low tap switch.
• Dual voltage (230/460)
• Special for 50 Hz.
• Special primary voltage.
• Special secondary voltage.
• Special KVA rating.

Drive Options
• Double gear, double knurl or double friction drive. Double gear drive includes a friction coupling to compensate for the difference in upper and lower wheel diameters. Separate variable speed D.C. drive motors allow easy adjustment to closely match upper and lower peripheral wheel speeds. This will minimize the slipping required by the friction coupling.

Cooling Options
Water outlet manifold (except flood water) with flow indicators.
• Internally cooled wheel electrodes.
• Water shut-off solenoid valve.
• Large pan to catch flood cooling water. Convenience Options
• Mounting of welder control, interconnection and system test
• Hydraulic knee jack.
• Motorized vertical knee adjustment.
• Magnetic motor starter.
• 6¼ angle weld heads if required for clearance.
• Special paint.
• Additional instruction books.
• Export boxing.
