Service & Controls Engineer

JOB TITLE: Service & Controls Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

The Service & Controls Engineer will be a shared resource between Engineering, Operations, and the Test & Service department.  This role will reside in Electrical Engineering but will be utilized as needed to assist in the testing and servicing of machines, focusing more on field service. A Service & Controls Engineer is responsible for identifying and mitigating risks on assigned projects and shares a joint responsibility to execute all projects at/below targets. A successful Service & Controls Engineer will have technical skillsets to be capable of creating and modifying electrical schematics and BOMs, writing, troubleshooting machine programs, and testing electrical controls systems.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete PLC and HMI programming to meet customer specifications, providing PLC/Robot programming support at Customer’s sites during Site Acceptance Testing and on customer service events.
  • Develop panel layouts, electrical schematics, and bills of materials. Prepare Operator’s Manual for sequence of operation as part of documentation provided to customer
  • Prepare Test Plan for Test Engineers to functionally test the machine. Document testing procedures thoroughly to ensure testing accountability and historic value for machines on the floor
  • Complete project milestones (BOM, drawings, software, testing and commissioning) on schedule.
  • Troubleshoot, correct, and document machine and panel wiring
  • Provide remote support to customers and Service engineers in the field
  • Utilize and obtain knowledge in using various testing equipment such as Digital Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Chart Recorders, Weld Checkers, etc.
  • Ensure safe work practice by following OSHA and NFPA 70E guidelines
  • Work in conjunction with Engineering, Operations, and Test Engineers to resolve any issues; keeping channels of communication open, focusing on best practices and creation/documentation of processes.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time
  • Provide troubleshooting support and evaluate legacy and current equipment in the field
  • Document all service activities comprehensively, including diagnostics, repairs, maintenance performed and aftermarket opportunities. Ensure that reports are clear, accurate, and include all relevant information such as equipment status, issues identified, corrective actions taken, and recommendations for future maintenance. These reports should be written in a professional manner to facilitate clear communication with customers and internal teams, and to maintain a thorough record of service history. 
  • Train customers to operate machinery 
  • Work in a collaborative, team environment to ensure knowledge is shared while also being able to work individually. Collaborate with Electrical Assembly, Mechanical Assembly, Engineering, and Project Management teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality of equipment. 
  • Have a mindset when testing machines that focuses on the critical path, vetting our assemblies or processes that could have long redesign and manufacturing lead times. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience

JOB SUMMARY: The On-Machine Wiring/Panel Builder position is responsible for the layout and assembly of machine control panels, i.e., HMIs, PLCs, and Operator Stations, in addition to on-machine wiring by interpreting control schematics and electrical layout drawings. This position plays a pivotal role in our manufacturing process and the candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the electrical components and wiring system in our machinery meet the highest quality standards. The proper candidate will be detail oriented, thorough, a critical thinker, and can work in a fast-paced environment. This position requires collaboration with our shop supervisors, electrical team members, and engineering to address design issues and work at improving our processes where needed. The proper candidate will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, will demonstrate a commitment to electrical safety standards, and will have the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands critical thinking.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Layout and cut control panel enclosure holes to mount electrical devices professionally.
  • Assemble interconnection wiring between control panel and electrical devices (i.e., prox. sensors, lasers, cameras, I/O blocks, etc.), ensuring precise and reliable connections.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical control schematics and control panel layouts.
  • Review completed work to ensure there are minimal to no mistakes and that the panel and/or machine resembles the completed electrical assembly schematic.
  • Common shop equipment (i.e., pipe bender, pipe threader, drill press, power saw, etc.)
  • Use hand or power tools to trim, shim, cut or make other adjustments for proper component assembly.
  • Label all wiring circuits per electrical control schematics
  • Measure and layout wire-way and conduit runs on machinery for wiring installation.

JOB SUMMARY: The Concept & Applications Engineer is a pivotal force connecting Sales, Engineering, and Customers. In this dynamic role, you manage the initial “Phase 0” project stage, applying your technical expertise to identify customer needs, create innovative design concepts, and prepare accurate cost estimates. You will regularly transform customer specifications into new, creative, tailored design solutions that lay the foundation for each project. As the technical lead before sales, you shape proposals that drive profitability and manufacturability, ensuring our solutions stand out. You’ll also collaborate across departments, sharing your vision and gathering insights to strengthen every proposal. This position offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact and be at the heart of groundbreaking projects.

 MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

         Concept Development: Create preliminary 3D CAD layouts and system architectures for bespoke machinery based on customer specifications.

         Cost Estimation: Develop comprehensive “bottom-up” project budgets by soliciting vendor quotes for specialized components and analyzing historical data from past reference jobs.

         Proposal Writing: Draft detailed technical proposals that outline scope of work, performance guarantees, and mechanical specifications for the sales team.

JOB SUMMARY:

 The Mechanical Engineer – Automation and Robotics is responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and support of automated systems and tooling from concept through manufacturing and implementation. This role applies sound engineering principles to develop reliable, safe, and manufacturable designs while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams. The Mechanical Engineer – Automation and Robotics contributes technical expertise to assigned projects, supports continuous improvement efforts, and assists with troubleshooting and validation activities.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet project and lifecycle requirements, including design, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Design new and modified mechanical components and subsystems in accordance with engineering standards and defined project scope.
  • Support research, development, and evaluation activities related to automation systems and tooling.

Test and Service Manager

The Test & Service Manager is the functional owner of the Test & Service department’s customer-facing service execution and administrative processes, ensuring these activities are carried out effectively by the Test & Service Administrator. This position shall act as a critical resource for assisting in the relentless development of processes for maximum profitability and is a hands-on leader with a passion for quality, customer service, problem-solving, and operational excellence consisting of minimizing downtime, maintaining budget, and proactively identifying and correcting errors before equipment is shipped. In addition, the Manager inspires a culture of collaboration and accountability within the Service team, promoting continuous improvement and empowering members to develop their technical and leadership skills.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as an active servant leader within TWT and lead the Test & Service leadership group.
    • Translate company directives, goals, and targets into clear departmental priorities, expectations, and execution plans that are understood and delivered by the entire team.
    • Ensure the team receives effective technical direction, coaching, and training to test machines, perform machine health assessments, support commissioning events, identify upgrade recommendations, and capture spare parts opportunities; remove barriers and coordinate resources to meet commitments.

  • Lead and own day-to-day Test & Service execution on the shop floor by setting priorities, capacity, and standard work; hold the team accountable to quality, schedule, and cost targets, and approve/oversee timekeeping, expenses, payroll coordination inputs, and department growth plans.
  • Ensure test-hour estimates and scope assumptions are documented, realistic, and aligned with approved estimating standards prior to proposal release to reduce variance and protect schedule and margin.
  • Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives that streamline Test & Service processes and deliver measurable performance gains (throughput, labor efficiency, downtime reduction, rework reduction, and schedule adherence) across both floor and field.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Operations, Aftermarket, Project Management, Quality, Engineering, and Service leadership to resolve scope issues, machinery concerns, customer complaints, and warranty matters; monitor project progress against targets (percent complete vs. actual hours), identify risk early, and drive corrective actions to recover schedule and budget.
  • Support intercompany Service Teams as needed by coordinating resources, sharing standard work/best practices, and assisting with escalated service issues to ensure timely resolution and consistent customer support.
  • Own Test & Service Department procedures, standard work, and training governance in support of the TWT Quality Management System; ensure procedures are created/maintained, training is completed, and adherence is verified through audits and follow-up actions.
  • Lead a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, environmental, and internal safety requirements; own policies, training, documentation, incident reporting, investigations, and corrective action follow-through, engaging external vendors or cross-functional support as needed.
